about

I really need to clarify the lyrics of this song: no, I'm not making fun of the emigrants (I am an expat myself) who decide to leave their homelands and move to a foreign country hoping that this will improve their lives. I'm rather making fun of the so-called "civilized 1st world", aka the "Western world", what with its illusory promises of wealth, safety and comfort - or even equal opportunities for everyone. We (the "1st world" citizens) truly live in "Wonderland".

lyrics

Do you believe in Alice in Wonderland?
Make a wish and you’ll see anything come true
Well, you’ve been stepping into “Wonderland”
A place where money will do everything for you

Lalalalaaa !

So whether you’re yellow, black or white
You can become whatever you like
Shelve the boundaries of your dreams
Now at last you’re “CIVILIZED”!
So civilized – so civilized!

Now that you’ve made your home in “Wonderland”
You can have a really fancy car
You can marry a very sexy wife
You might turn into a movie star
As long as you become… “civilized”
So civilized

I see you’re doing well in “Wonderland”
Looks like nature has been pretty good to you
A sense for nonsense – none for decency
Makes you measure-made for this society

Lalalalaaa !

So whether you’re vicious, dumb or bright
You will become whatever you like
Shelve the meaning of your pride
Now at least you’re civilized
So civilized – so civilized !

Now that you’ve made your home in “Wonderland”
You can have a really fancy car
You can marry a very sexy wife
You might turn into a movie star
As long as you become… “civilized”

I wish you well, my friend
You’ve come a long way

Hey, do you believe in Alice in Wonderland
(chorus): make a wish and you’ll see anything come true
You’ve been stepping into “Wonderland”
A place where money will do everything for you
So whether you’re yellow, black or white
You can become whatever you like
Shelve the boundaries of your dreams
Now at last - you’re - “CIVILIZED”!
